Congratulations to the winners of the June 9th Democratic primaries. Nominees for the House of Delegates in November are:

District 44: Paul Krizek

District 45: Mark Levine

District 63: Lashrecse Aird

District 69: Delegate Betsy Carr

District 74: Lamont Bagby

Members of the community are invited to participate in a free screening of the documentary film The Hunting Ground on Wednesday, June 10th, hosted and sponsored by Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn (D – 41st District) and George Mason University.

The film, which was part of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, provides a startling look at rape crimes on U.S. college campuses and the devastating toll they take on students and their families. First-hand accounts of victims are portrayed throughout the film as examples of the problem addressing U.S. campuses.

I recently joined several other Senators and Delegates in siging the following letter to the Fairfax County School Board:

May 28, 2015

Dear School Board Members,

As representatives of Fairfax County, we applaud the Fairfax County School Board for its recent vote to add sexual orientation and gender identity to its non-discrimination policy. We also encourage the Board to adopt age-appropriate Family Life Education and health curriculum that affirms LGBT youth.

I wrote to the Fairfax County School Board on May 7, urging them to vote to include gender identity in their non-discrimination regulations. They did, indeed, vote to do so. Here is my letter:

Dear Fairfax County School Board Members:

I congratulate you all for initiating a public conversation about the important issue of discrimination in general and the specific addition of gender identity as a protected class to the existing FCPS anti-discrimination policies.
